Synopsis

This third issue in the Japanese Architecture series continues to investigate the ongoing trends that are appearing in this fluctuating, high-tech, information society. From automobiles to office towers and pocket size DAT (Digital Audio Tapes) as well as first world economy, the architecture is assessed within this vibrant framework. The innovative generation of architects brought up in this industrialized society are examined, for example Itsuko Hasegawa, Shin Takamatsu, alongside those architects of a previous generation whose work has become an integral part of Japanese society, for example the 1960s "Metabolism" movement typified in the work of Kisho Kurokawa.
