Considering the theory of reading within the context of current reading initiatives and reader development practice, this text combines new definitions of reader development theory with research and practice-based initiatives worldwide. Based on research on reader development, the book combines the authors' academic and practice-based knowledge in the area of reading for pleasure, presenting transferable models of good practice. Individual chapters include case studies and inserts from key players in the fields of reading and reader development. It provides evidence of the value of reading in personal, cultural and social development and presents case study material and reading trends involving both the reading adult and the reading child.
