About the Author

Ben Robinson is best known as the man behind Eaglemoss's Official Star Trek Starships collection, which in the last three years has become the largest and best-regarded collections of model Star Trek ships ever produced.

He has been involved with Star Trek for 20 years. Ben was the launch editor of the hugely succesful Star Trek Fact Files reference work, which sold over 50 million units. Then he went on to edit the US Star Trek: The Magazine, which ran between 1999 and 2003. He has co-written two Haynes Manuals, the first featuring all seven Enterprises, and the second focusing on the Klingon Bird-of-Prey. Ben is particularly passionate about the writing, design, and visual effects behind the series. In the last two decades he has conducted extensive interviews with many of the most significant figures in the history of Star Trek from Dorothy Fontana and Matt Jefferies to Michael Piller, Ira Steven Behr, Ron D. Moore, and Bryan Fuller.

FOREWORD

This is the second book in a new series that will build into a detailed reference work covering all the ships that have appeared in STAR TREK over the years. This book and its sister volume cover Starfleet ships: the first volume covers the ships from STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and the original series; this volume covers the STAR TREK: NEXT GENERATION era and the handful ships of that we know about from the early years of the 24th century. Other volumes will cover geographical areas, such as the Delta Quadrant, or races such as the Klingons. The plan is that eventually we will cover every part of the STAR TREK universe.

The ships that are in this book are all canon ships that have appeared in one of the STAR TREK TV series or movies, however briefly. All are from the Prime timeline and don’t take account of the vessels that can be found in the movies made since 2009, or in some of the parallel realities that we have seen on the show. This is not the place for ships that have only appeared in books, games, calendars, or the animated STAR TREK series. For now at least there won’t be any ships that have only been referred to in dialogue or seen as graphics on a computer display.

What this book does contain is detailed in-universe profiles of every ship along with plan views. The computer generated artwork will give you the chance to look at things in unprecedented detail, something that is particularly relevant for ships that only made the briefest of appearances on screen.

This book starts just after Kirk’s death aboard the Enterprise-B and ends in the distant future, when the Federation will be operating timeships rather than starships and the Enterprise-J will dwarf its predecessors. It includes all the Starfleet ships from STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE and STAR TREK: VOYAGER. We’ve said before that it’s something we think people have been waiting for, and we hope that it’s everything they want. It has been a great privilege to work with the talented artists who created the ships, and to bring all these ships together in one place.
