Lae was born of gold, and came into existence solely due to the discovery of the Morobe goldfield in the 1920s. This book tells of that discovery, of the deeds of famous prospectors and great minig companies. It tells of the extraordinary developments of civil aviation that followed the discovery of gold. It tells too of the early explorers of Morobe Provenince, the first settlement by the Germans, of the Lutheran mission and its work. The story continues to the war which saw the devastation of Wau, Lae, Bulolo, and Salamaua, and the post-war era which saw Lae expand dramatically, and carries on through independence to the present day.
