The Shaded Relief Map of Denali National Park & Preserve shows the rugged contours of Alaska's premier national park. Established by an act of congress in 1917 as Mt. McKinley National Park, it originally included almost 2,500 square miles. Today's boundaries, clearly marked on this map, encompass more than 9,375 square miles of infinitely varied wilderness. The glaciers, mountains, rivers, lakes, and tundra are shown in subtle shades of green, brown, and blue. The park's many mountains seem to rise from the surface of the map in dramatic relief. The back side of the map includes information on the park's history, as well as on its mammals, birds, climate, geology, and much more. The map also includes black-and-white drawings of animals and their tracks, as well as an aerial photo of Mount McKinley. Scale is 1:250,000.
