9781878580702: Common Criminals: L.A. Crime Stories

Fiction. "[Fondation's] stark, hyperviolent, spookily erotic stories are absolutely addictive. COMMON CRIMINALS is a brilliant and claustrophobic rendering of life as it is lived in the cities of America today"-Barry Graham. "The inhabitants of Fondation's COMMON CRIMINALS are repelling and compelling, repulsive and attractive as they navigate life, compelled by the competing imperatives of their good intention and petty larcenous souls. A Dickens for the new millennium. This writer pulls no punches-he sees into the hearts and souls of LA and its inhabitants"-Sally Shore. "COMMON CRIMINALS will grab you where you live, and no let you up for breath"-Gary Phillips. "COMMON CRIMINALS is a dark account of LA alienation in a controlled style that sheds harsh, electrifying light on the darkness"-Ronald Sukenick.

About the Author:

Larry Fondation writes about what he knows best, the inner city with a twist. Raised in Dorchester, MA, where street fights and criminal acts were common occurances, Fondation studied at Harvard University where the disparity between his history and his present stood out in sharp relief. He then went on to become a community organizer in South Central Los Angeles and Compton, CA. The requirement for his job was not the degree in his hand, but the fire in his belly. That fire burns in Common Criminals.

Review:

Larry Fondation’s second book reads like a collaboration between Elmore Leonard, Dennis Cooper and Eminem. -- Barry Graham

These narratives move deeply to the heart of the matter to reveal a humanity common to all of us. -- Kirpal Gordon
