Ages 8-11. This hodgepodge of animal curiosities is not as wacky as it would like us to believe. Some of the facts are downright unwacky: Both zebras and tigers use their striped coats as camouflage. Wow! Still, youngsters are likely to be attracted to this loosely organized catalog with cartoon illustrations. The animals are arranged in categories such as "Funny Fish" and "Here Be Dragons!" In the section "It Takes All Kinds," the hoatzin of South America is described as a bird with wings that don't help much with flying. Its wings do have claws along the edges to help it climb trees. Wacky? Maybe. Interesting? Yes. Denia Hester
