PreSchool-Grade 1 --Different aspects of puppy care are introduced to young pet owners through attractive photography and a brief text. Jack, an umbrella-toting preschooler decked out in boots and backpack, marches across the endpages with his puppy, Honey, on a leash. He plays with her and walks, grooms, and feeds her. After she falls asleep, Jack goes off with an old friend--a stuffed dog. Crisp, clear, full-color photographs of the boy and dog are overlaid and surrounded by simple line drawings. The bright, primary colors used throughout have great child appeal. The introductory note to parents points out that the book is designed to develop a sense of responsibility in youngsters and an awareness of their pet's needs.
