Cowboy Boots And Other Stories is a collection of local auctioneer and columnist John Sater's short essays on country life. Writing with humor and a good dose of nostalgia, Sater examines not only the nuances of living in the country, but also the lives and times of a generation whose mothers went from washboards to washing machines, and whose father swore by (and sometimes at) Model-A Fords. Sater's 44 essays address such diverse topics as grasshoppers, porcupines, super-chickens, and Fels Naptha soap. He writes about the common cold and common cures of the "good old days". Cats, mice, chickens and chimneys are his subjects, along with hauling water in the winter time, old radio shows, garden catalogs and stink bugs. Cowboy Boots And Other Stories is a trip down nostalgia lane, taking us to a place, a time, and a people that have been memorialized by the art of the essay and the spinning of a yarn. -- Midwest Book Review
