Kay Pfaltz is a writer and bestselling author of Lauren s Story: An American Dog in Paris, and The Beagle. The greatest gift I ever received was a strange little dog. Her name was Lauren. The first time I ever heard of Lauren I was in my apartment in Paris and my boyfriend of the minute had just broken up with me, for about the eighty-eighth time. My sister Amy had been telling me to get a dog, get a dog. She said it would ease the loneliness, and I'd have something to force me out of the apartment.
