Tom Kraft's The Type a Thing makes the fractures between perception and revery explicit. A montage of words and phrases, Kraft's writing reflects the drift of random thoughts entangling the cartoonish in the sublime: "A manual cranking / above a silted river arm / lairs out a flock to think again," he writes in the poem's opening section. The Type a Thing, Kraft says, "is a coastal evacuation route, a clue to future words, or a treasure map Americans used to travel.

Born in 1973, Tom Kraft grew up outside Bridgeton, New Jersey. After receiving a B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1996, Kraft moved to New York City, where he wrote The Type a Thing.
