Reviews

For libraries that serve a significant number of recent immigrants (whatever their legal status), the 1997 changes in relevant laws and regulations suggest acquiring this revised handbook even if Baldwin's earlier volume (1995) is already on the shelf. The attorney-author, a specialist in immigration law, provides instructions on filing for green cards, short-term visas, temporary protected status, asylum, and citizenship, and he discusses employment issues of particular concern to resident aliens. The Q & A format allows Baldwin to deal with a wide range of situations in a conversational manner, including references to specific countries of origin and special situations. The volume is to be updated, as further changes become effective, on the publisher's Web site (http/www.allworth.com). A vital reference for those subject to immigration law; a useful tool for employers and clergy and activists counseling immigrants. Mary Carroll
