When Ida's father, Nick, suddenly dies, she returns to the big city to close down his detective agency. Ida discovers Nick's notes on his last case, The Maltese Goddess, a stolen statue originally from Malta. Attempting to solve the mystery, her search take her to a voodoo shop run by Madame LaRue and a cult known as "The Sisters." The cult uses the statue in a dangerous ritual where an initiate allows herself to be bitten by a snake, the poison causes hallucinatory visions and supposedly contact with the spirit world. Ida encounters others interested in the Maltese Goddess; the rich and eccentric Courtland Van Rhetchen III, who claims the statue was stolen from him; "Fingers" Funoccio, an old mobster friend of Nick's; McNulty the cop; the unsavory "Shoes" who claims Nick had the statue before he died, and the mysterious Madame LaRue. To top it off, the entire production was recorded in digital 3-D sound! When you wear headphones the performance takes place all around you. To create the "film Noir' feeling, it was recorded like a movie, out on location in the buildings, streets, old cars and cellars where the story takes place. The sound is so real it can sneak up and bite you! 75 minutes
