About the Author:

Gary Robson has been involved in the captioning industry since 1989 and was awarded the Andrew Saks Engineering Award by Telecommunications for the Deaf Inc. for his "outstanding contribution to improving the visual accessibility of information."

In addition to his software engineering work in captioning and court reporting, he wrote Inside Captioning, the definitive guide to the captioning industry, and The Court Reporter's Guide to Cyberspace. Gary is a contributing editor for the Journal of Court Reporting and captioning columnist for Newswaves for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing People, and has written numerous articles on the conjunction of captioning, court reporting and computers on subjects ranging from captioning for city governments to speech recognition.

In 1987, he founded Cheetah Systems with his wife, Kathy. He has been the principal designer for all of Cheetah's captioning, CAT and legal software, as well as the Gemini ergonomic stenotype machine. He is currently the Chief Technology Strategist for VITAC Corporation, the largest closed captioning company in the United States.
