Book by Robert A. Lytle

Robert A. Lytle, a Saginaw native who now resides in Rochester, Michigan spent his boyhood summers in the Les Cheneaux Islands of eastern upper Michigan, a paradise resort area of spectacular beauty. There, with his parents and three sisters, he fished, skied, sailed, and swam in the clear Lake Huron bays and channels or hiked and explored the forty ""Snows Islands."" The Lytle's small cabin had neither electricity nor running water but provided everything else a boy would ever want. Eventually, college beckoned and with it the need to help with expenses. He couldn't bear to forego his summers in the Straits area so he sought employment on nearby Mackinac Island. The first year, as a dock porter, he carried luggage on a bicycle from the boat docks to the Island House Hotel. The next three summers Bob was a dockmaster at the marina during the day and a folksinger at a local hotel at night. Mackinac Island provided everything a young man would ever want. After college, he married a girl he'd met on the yacht dock and they raised four sons while he worked as a pharmacist in his downtown Rochester drug store. His love of the Straits region has never diminished and his visits to northern Michigan continue although for shorter periods than in his boyhood years. While away, the adventures in his mind flourished. The Mackinac Passage series is the result of those musings.
