From the Back Cover:

On October 8, 1871, two great disasters took place on the very same day. The most famous one was the Great Chicago Fire. The other, which happened several hundred miles to the north, swept through the pioneer forests near Green Bay in northeastern Wisconsin. It became known as the Peshtigo Fire, for one of the little towns destroyed in the firestorm's path.

By taking shelter in the safety of the Peshtigo River, young Carrie Heidenworth survived Wisconsin's great Peshtigo Fire. But now she faces life afterwards as an orphan.

In this engaging sequel to Carrie and the Crazy Quilt, Carrie and her little brother Fritz have been taken to nearby Oconto. There, the two are given shelter by the wealthy Omar Bentz and his reclusive wife, Erna, who is suffering her own losses by fire.

Soon, the spunky Carrie makes a new friend, a Menominee Indian girl named Fawn. With the help of heartfelt prayers and growing friendships, Carrie discovers her own path to start life anew.
