Kris Jamsa, Ph.D. is not only the president and CEO of Jamsa Press, he is also the author of over 65 computer books covering a wide range of topics, including DOS, Windows, OS/2, programming languages, graphics, the Internet and the Web. In 1983, he earned his bachelor's degree in computer science from the Air Force, in Las Vegas, Nevada. At the same time, Dr. Jamsa was earning his master's degree in computer science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In August of 1993, Dr. Jamsa received his doctorate in computer science with an emphasis on operating systems from Arizona State University. Continuing to broaden his education, he is currently working on his MBA commuting from Las Vegas every week to San Diego State University.
It was in 1985 that Dr. Jamsa got his rather unusual start in writing. For one of his computer science classes at UNLV, Dr. Jamsa was required to read a certain computer book which he found cryptic, frustrating, and hard to follow. When a friend argued that since the material being covered was difficult, then the text needed to be too, Dr. Jamsa wagered his friend five dollars that he could write a better computer text that was thorough, yet easy to comprehend. Far exceeding his original goal, Dr. Jamsa received offers from two publishers to publish his book and numerous compliments and praise for his easy to understand writing style. Dr. Jamsa is now the author of over 65 computer books covering a wide range of topics, as well as the head of the fastest growing computer book and multimedia publisher and computer solution provider!
Today, Dr. Jamsa is regarded as one of the leading experts in the industry. He is known through his books for his ability to make the most difficult concepts simple and understandable. On several occasions he has been asked to speak regarding the most current topics of the computer industry. Because of his expertise and experience, computer users worldwide turn to Dr. Jamsa for advise and solutions.Review:
Since I am in the computer business, I regularly get calls for help from friends and relatives. Being a basically nice guy, I help out where I can, even when my paying clients are also yelling for help. After all, I can hardly tell my mother to take her PC in to the repair shop without my even looking at it. However, after reading and using Kris Jamsa's new book, I am looking forward to some extra leisure time. Dr. Jamsa packs an amazing amount of information into less than 300 pages. This book serves very well for upgrades (making your PC run better) and repairs (making your PC run, period). He begins by telling the reader they can indeed fix or upgrade their PC and then proves it. The book is carefully organized. Everything from installing a surge suppresser to upgrading your hard drive is covered. The tone is light, but the instructions are detailed and clear. Simple drawings (preferable to photographs) cover every step. Separate text boxes outline each task for those in a hurry, while the detailed descriptions are there for those of us that want to know all the facts. You may not care that CMOS stands for "complimentary metal oxide semiconductor," but you had better know how to fix your CMOS batteries when they die. I now have all my birthday and Christmas shopping done for my PC user friends. Upgrading Your PC may not seem to be a very exciting present, but Mom will thank me in the end. I can hear my phone not ringing now. -- From Independent Publisher
