Michol O'Connor served on the First Court of Appeals in Houston from 1989 to 2000. She is a respected author and lecturer, and is recognized as a leading expert in litigation. Before her election to the appellate court, Justice O'Connor practiced civil trial and appellate law in both the public and private sectors. She served as chair of the Appellate Practice and Advocacy section of the Texas State Bar for 1995 to 1996.
Professor Byron P. Davis teaches at South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas, specializing in Texas civil pretrial, trial, and appellate procedure. A summa cum laude graduate of South Texas College of Law, Professor Davis served as a briefing attorney for the First Court of Appeals and as an assistant district attorney in Harris County.
