The author is Rodney Timms. He was born 9/17/53 in Frederick, OK. His book of poetry tells the story of his life. The poems are about child abuse, hope and help. You will not only learn about his early years of abuse, but also about the redeeming love of God, family and friends.
He was physically abused from the age of 4 until he was 15. When he was 15, his father beat him until his eyes swelled shut, and he was bleeding internally. This happened on the side of a public highway in Oklahoma. No one intervened, even though it lasted for more than half an hour. There was no place for him to go for help. He tried talking to a preacher, but nothing happened. No one seemed to care about helping children back then. He was never taken to the hospital, yet he was not allowed to leave the house until he was completely healed. He feels like he lost 15 years of his life trying to figure out what he must have done to cause this to happen to him.
Mr. Timms states, "I realize some of you cannot related to this happening to children today, but I can assure you it is happening to children everyday. Today, at age 51, I am sharing my experience in order to bring attention to the thousands of children who need us to intervene on their behalf. We need to show these children that they are loved and we care."
