For more than six decades,The Touchdown Club of Oklahoma has been an integral part of the grand enterprise that is University of Oklahoma football. Sooner football was lagging in success and popularity when a group of Oklahoma business leaders took it upon themselves to form The Touchdown Club in 1947 to raise funds to provide scholarships and improve facilities.The group also used unorthodox methods to keep a young football coach, Bud Wilkinson, in Norman. The great success of OU football in the second half of the twentieth century could not have happened without the efforts of The Touchdown Club.This is the story of the men who laid their money and prestige on the line to help make OU football a winning tradition.

Henry Browne, Jr.,is vice chairman and executive vice president of Great Plains Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Born and raised in Oklahoma City, he attended the University of Oklahoma from 1954 to 1958 while the Sooner football team compiled an incredible record of 51-2. Following graduation and completion of a tour of duty in the United States Navy, Browne returned home and began his career with the Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He retired from the Naval Reserve at the rank of Captain. For many years he has been actively involved in the community, serving in civic, business, city, and state organizations. BoB Burke has written more historical non-fiction books than anyone else in history. His 121 books are all about Oklahoma s incredible heritage. Born in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, he was director of a large state agency in Governor David Boren s administration and managed Boren s first campaign for the United States Senate. He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City University School of Law. Burke, a member of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame, has won many awards for his writing. He is the father of Robert,Amy, and Cody, stepfather of Natalie, Lauren, and Calli, and grandfather of Nathan, Jon, and Ridge. He and his wife Chimene live in Oklahoma City where he practices law and writes books.
