This book has many things going for it. The lessons are simple and direct. The exercises constantly repeat what has been formerly taught. New ideas are approached incrementally in digestible form. The nature of the exercises force the students to use what they have learned. In particular this is true with the formula sentences the students are required to produce almost immediately. This book is different. Yes, it is a lot of work, but there is no such thing as a free lunch in learning how to write. The total focus in this book is on the sentence. Grammar is a means, not an end. All the grammar that is taught in this book is designed to help the student be better able to create sentences with confidence and variety of structure. Punctuation necessary for the given structures is taught concurrently with structure itself. These methods were developed in the classroom over a number of years and have been thoroughly tested with great success. Grades 7 and up. Paperback.
