Addley Hogan Gladden had an exciting life: planter in South Carolina and New Orleans, Intendant (Mayor) of Columbia, South Carolina, co-founder of the Mardi Gras, and Brigadier General in the Civil War. This extensively-researched biography of the author's ancestor is lavishly illustrated with photos, maps, and drawings.
Gladden died at the Battle of Shiloh while leading his brigade.
