Her senior year in high school, she asked a guidance counselor about a writing career. His advice: "Find a good man, get married and forget writing." She took his recommendation to heart and married her high school sweetheart at the tender age of 19. Some 20 1/2 years, and two children later, she took another man's advice -- her husband's -- and went back to the writing she had given up.
Cat and the Wizard is her first novella, it is by no means her first piece. J.Paulette has numerous published short stories -- one that ranked in the top 10 for Science Fiction & Fantasy at the 1994 Midwest Writers' Conference out of 2000 enteries, one that was a semi-finalist in the 1995 National Fan Fantasy Federation Short Story Contest and several published, award-winning poems to her credit. She was awarded Honorable Mention for Adult Poetry in 1996 for The Columbus Christian Writers Summer Writing Contest. 1997 saw her elected to The International Poetry Hall of Fame for her outstanding poetic talent in open poetry competition. She writes for the fanzine Celestial Toybox. Her work can also be found in the Cambridge Writers Workshop anthologies Visions 2 & 3, MonkeySpank spring issue '98, and Mind Journeys, the proceeds from Mind Journeys goes to the American Cancer Society Children's Recreational Fund.
J.Paulette lives with her husband, a semi-truck Driver Trainer, two teenage sons, and a variety of animals. She has developed her own style: Gothic Friction. It's what you get when you start with Gothic Romance for tinder; then rub Fantasy and Science Fiction together until something ignites.
At present she is working on; Choices -- a contemporary vampire novel; The Keeper of Tales: The Story of Cere-Cat -- a sword and sorcery adventure and 'Til Death Do Us Part... -- a murder mystery.Review:
