Deborah Edwards Sakach As a result of her passion for history, travel and bed & breakfasts, Deborah Sakach has emerged as the leading voice in the bed & breakfast industry. Her publishing company American Historic Inns, Inc. (AHI) is the industry leader for bed & breakfast guides, with more than 2.5 million books in print. Sakach has authored seven books on bed and breakfasts including 60 custom editions of Bed & Breakfast and Country Inns, nine editions of The Official Guide to American Historic Inns, and three Editions of the Bed & Breakfast Encyclopedia. Her Official Guide to American Historic Inns was a Book of the Month Club selection for several years. For 24 years she has successfully promoted the history and charm of the Bed & Breakfast industry, while creating key business relationships with which to reach millions of consumers each year. Most uniquely, Deborah maintains affiliations with large consumer goods companies to provide co-promotions that benefit innkeepers, consumers and consumer products alike. For example, the American Historic Inns Buy-One-Night-Get-One-Night Free program requires that innkeepers provide the second free night at their expense. This program was first sold to Nabisco Shredded Wheat, who promoted the program on their cereal boxes and brought 400,000 consumers requesting the co-branded American Historic Inns/ Nabisco B&B books. Nabisco called the program, The best promotion in the 100 year history of Shredded Wheat. Subsequently for the past 14 years American Historic Inns has partnered with a multitude of top brands. American Historic Inns web site iLoveInns.com was named by Yahoo! Internet Magazine as one of the 12 best travel sites on the web and the best bed and breakfast site. Sakach taught classes for several years in the California University System on starting and operating a bed and breakfast inn and has contributed travel articles to magazines including Family Circle, Good Housekeeping. American Historic Inns books have been featured and recommended in hundreds of newspapers and magazines including the New York Times, Washington Post and USA Today. She grew up in Northern Ohio, her parents, a school teacher and labor union leader. She graduated from Redlands University with a BS in Business and from Trinity College with an MA in Counseling Psychology. Ms. Sakach worked in PR for the Pasadena Rose Parade, and in direct mail for a large ad agency specializing in non-profit organizations, Russ Reid Company with clients such as Habitat, World Vision, and Unicef before launching her bed and breakfast enterprise. Sakach has enjoyed traveling in Europe, Africa, Asia, and throughout the United States, invariably to stay at small inns. She has four adult children, three sons and a daughter and lives in Capistrano Beach, California
