The eleven Appalachian Trail Guides published by the Appalachian Trail Conference (ATC) and three of its member clubs provide the only official descriptions of each part of the legendary 2,160 mile Appalachian National Scenic Trail from Maine to Georgia. The directions - north to south and south to north on the footpath are written by volunteers who also use their free time to maintain the A.T. and manage the lands surrounding it, making these books a guided tour of their special 'backyards.' Proceeds from the sale of these guides go back into the protection and maintenance of this trail through the programs of ATC and its affiliated local clubs. A.T. guides include up to 7 detached, easy-to-read maps of the trail and nearby areas - most of which are printed on both sides of special tear-resistant, water-resistant material.
