About the Author

V. Stefan, (Editor), internationally renowned for his research in various areas of plasma physics and controlled thermonuclear fusion, has performed scientific research in many of the world's leading research centers like P.N.Lebedev Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a founding member of The Stefan University and is a founder/series editor for several book series.V.Stefan is the inventor of the ultra short wavelenghth beat-wave driven free electron laser. His current research is focused on laser neurophysics and physics aspects of laser genomic medicine. N. G. Basov, (Editor), had proposed the use of semiconductors for lasers, and had realized various types with excitation through p-n junctions, electron beams and optical pumping (1960-1965).In 1968 Basov produced thermonuclear reactions by using powerful lasers. He shared 1964 Nobel Prize in Physics with Charles Townes and Alexander Prokhorov for their work on the oscillators and amplifiers used to produce laser beams. N.G.Basov was the director of the Lebedev Institute from 1973 untill 1988.
