This is the third and final chapter of the trilogy started by Fray Angélico Chavez in 1981 on the three Hispanic leaders of the Catholic Church in New Mexico in the middle of the nineteenth century — Padres Martínez, Gallegos, and now Ortiz. This is also the last book by Fray Angélico. In the last years of his life, Fray Angélico asked his nephew, Thomas, to finish this project. This is the story of Padre Juan Felipe Ortiz and his church at a crucial time in the history of New Mexico. It is also the message, ideas, and words of Fray Angélico Chávez, with the gentle assistance of his nephew Thomas E. Chávez. This is the last book by Fray Angélico Chávez, but it is the first by Chávez y Chávez.
