When Micki was separated in 1990, she had been married for twenty-three years and had four adolescent children. Many people said, "You'd better get a good lawyer and get ready to fight." By that time, she had been a member of Al-Anon and had been practicing the Twelve Steps for five years and she knew there was a better way. She used this gentle philosophy to guide her through her separation and divorce and realized how helpful the Steps could be in creating a feeling of serenity-a commodity in short supply during divorce.
Micki McWade is a graphic artist and writer, a mother of four grown children, and married to her second husband, Gary Ditlow. She lives in New York.
