Synopsis

Intended as a supplement to private or group lessons, Basics of Keyboard Theory, Level 2 presents basic theory concepts to the advanced beginning music student. This level is to be used with the student who has had approximately two to three years of music lessons, and knows the following: 1. The Names of the treble and bass clef notes, sharps, flats, and naturals. 2. Rhythms in 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8, including values of eighth, quarter, dotted quarter, half, dotted half, and whole notes. 3. The names of the notes on the keyboard. 4. Is playing piano literature at the level of the Anna Magdalena Notebook by J.S. Bach, or the easier pieces from Schumann's Album for the Young.

About the Author

Julie McIntosh Johnson received the degrees Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy and Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Redlands. Her experience includes teaching piano, theory, and ear training at the University of Redlands, class piano at the University of Oregon, and classes for young children at the Yamaha Research and Development Center in La Mirada, California. She has written many of the MTAC Certificate of Merit Keyboard Theory Tests. Presently, Ms. Johnson teaches in Yorba Linda, California.
