About the Author

William M. Timpson is a Professor in the School of Education at Colorado State University where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses. In addition, he heads the International Network for Sustainable Peace and Development within the School of Global Environmental Sustainability at Colorado State University. Bill has been an advocate for improving postsecondary education both as past Director of the Teaching and Learning Center at CSU and as an author and speaker on teaching enhancement. Long interested in issues of sustainability, peace, and equity, the topics are reflected in his scholarship. His research, in part supported by a National Kellogg Fellowship and a Fulbright Fellowship, has focused on these topics from a global perspective.

Jeff Foley has served in a variety of roles for Outward Bound, an outdoor leadership program organization, including instructor, course director, program manager, and director of the Rocky Mountain region. He has also held positions as the coordinator of the Outdoor Studies Program at Colorado Mountain College, an emergency medical technician, a rock and ice rescue technician, a wild land fire fighter, a HAZMAT operator, a law enforcement officer, and a member of a SWAT team. He earned his master s degree in education and human resources studies as Colorado State University and now serves as an assistant professor in Instructional Leadership at the School of Education at CSU.

Nathalie Kees is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at Colorado State University. She has also served as a school counselor in Wyoming and a licensed professional counselor in Colorado, where she used experiential techniques to help clients see new ways of dealing with difficult situations. And as a counselor educator at Colorado State University for the past 25 years, she has continued her journey as a teacher of a skills-based, experiential curriculum. Her writing and research have been focused in the areas of group facilitation and group counseling, particularly the area of women s groups. She has served as a consultant on group facilitation to groups at Colorado State University, as well as local and state school districts and other agencies such as Hospice.

Alina M. Waite received her Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with a Biomedical Engineering option from University of New Mexico and worked as a Graduate Research Assistant in the microbiology and anatomy departments, where she had the opportunity to conduct research first-hand. She earned her Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology. She is widely traveled and spent over fifteen years working in healthcare prior to returning to school to earn a doctoral degree in organization development. Alina currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Resource Development & Performance Technologies at Indiana University's College of Technology.
