Itsy finds herself in total darkness. Suddenly, light from a tremendous explosion starts spreading. The intense light condenses into atomic nuclei as it spreads. The nuclei collide and fuse to form still heavier nuclei. Later, she notices the atoms joining to form dust clouds which gravity pulls together into rocks. The rocks grow into larger bodies, and finally suns. She wakes and her mother explains her dream was the Big Bang theory of how our universe came into being.

SAVE MONEY - Amazon allows us to ship directly to you the buyer. This cuts cost and saves you money. Just click on the "New and Used box to order this way. You still order from Amazon - the only difference is we ship the book directly to you instead of we ship it to Amazon and Amazon shipping it to you. Sometimes this offer will not appear due to stocking limitation, but most of the time it's a way to save money.

Although this book is listed as a paperback, it's not your ordinary paperback. It is printed on "return postcard" weight paper that is both heavy and tough with a heavyweight glossy cover. The pages are stapled, then the spline is encased in a heavyweight wide plastic outer spline that makes it well nigh impossible to tear a page out, "break its back," or even exert force on the staples. We replaced the hardback version of this book with this more durable and less expensive binding.

From the Inside Flap:

This Review from INFO-ITEMS seems to say-it-all.

As Dreamed by Itsy is an unbelievable but wonderful science series for 5 - 8 year olds. Who would believe titles like Einstein's Theory of Relativity, Chemical Bonding, or Atomic Physics? My kids loved the stories, and I learned a lot of science too. Had science books in school been this good, I might be wearing a lab coat today.

All books follow the same format. Itsy, a little girl (girl + science = great idea) sees exciting things happening and really gets interested. Something happens and she wakes - it was all a dream. The things Itsy saw in her dream lets her mother quickly explain how Itsy's dream showed a scientific theory. How's that? Exciting dream, beautiful images, reduces science to kids' understanding with no pain.

The illustrations are interesting - simple colored line drawings go along with the story line, helping the kid visualize and maintain interest by showing Itsy doing something in every drawing. The format is a page of text and an illustration on the opposite page. The stories and illustrations came about when a scientist started telling his grandchildren stories about science. I could just see him sketching the illustrations on a pad as he talked.

Had the author left off the mother bit, I'd have thought the stories were just to entertain kids and would never have dreamed they are about science. That's my way of saying the books are great stories that happen to include a science education.
