Step by step, The Artist's Studio: How to Build Your Own Professional Studio Easel will help you build the professional studio easel that every working artist needs. The emphasis in this book is on the practical, requiring only a rudimentary knowledge of woodworking and the most basic hand and power tools. A master list of materials and supplies has been provided, as well as milling specifications. Unlike other woodworking books, the instructions for building each major component of the easel are separated into chapters. Each chapter is set up in two sections. The first section introduces basic woodworking techniques, and discusses some common problems and solutions. The second section is devoted to the actual project, detailing the necessary tools, lumber and hardware for building that particular component, as well as giving the building instructions. Diagrams are included for each component, as well as sprinklings of advice, suggestions and observations from the author.
Sturdy, stable and attractive, this professional studio easel is easy and inexpensive to build. The sliding angle adjuster allows the artist to paint at any angle from 80 to 110 degrees. The easel can support canvases up to 60 inches in height with the dimensions given, or the height can be increased by lengthening the center support by the desired number of inches. The 26-inch paint tray acts as a convenient shelf to hold tubes of paint, brushes, rags, or whatever else you might need. And when your painting is completed, just remove the two carriage bolts on the sliding angle adjuster and the easel folds flat for convenient storage.
