This is the self portrait, in selective memory, of a man who led many lives, all of them full of risk, accomplishment and above all humanity.

There is David Brown of Zanuck/Brown, there is David Brown, raconteur extraordinary with astonishing stories about his encounters with the famous and notorious and the all-powerful-including Mafia chieftains, presidents, the reclusive Howard hughes, the super-rich J. Paul Getty, William Randolph Hearst, and the super-famous Marilyn Monroe, Robert Kennedy, Irving Berlin, Paul Newman, Orson Welles, Steven Spielberg, Robert Redforn, Darryl Zanuck, David O. Selznick, John O'Hara, Carl Sandburg, Nikita Khrushchev, Frank Sinatra, Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Salvador Dali, Irving Lazar, John Belushi and scores of others.

There is David Brown the journalist, author, film mogul, veteran of the corporate jungle, and-yes-one-time astrologer. There is David Brown, husband and intellectual companion to publishing phenomenon, an event in human form, the former Helen Gurley.

Finally there is David Brown, friend, acquaintance, even confidant of the world's rich, famous, and infamous.

From the Author:
David Brown has produced Broadway plays,k films and television. He was educated at Stanford and Columbia School of Journalism. His film credits include the recently released Chocolat, Angela's Ashes, Deep Impact, and Kiss the Girls. He also produced A Few Good Men, and the Player, Enigma, and Along Came a Spider.
From Publishers Weekly:
In this collection of anecdotes, mostly self-congratulatory, Brown recounts stories of his partnership with Darryl Zanuck's son, Richard, in making the hugely successful films Jaws, The Sting and The Verdict , and details the team's relationships with Paul Newman and other stars. Harking back to 1937, he tells about his debut in journalism on Women's Wear Daily , followed by a career that brought him in contact with memorable public figures such as mobster boss Frank Costello and the Mafia menace Estes Kefauver; Khrushchev, Howard Hughes et al. At his pseudo-modest heights, Brown describes how Helen Gurley, after persuading him to take a third wife, became Helen Gurley Brown, author ( Sex and the Single Girl ) and formidable editor of Cosmopolitan. Notwithstanding the posturing throughout, the book's "quick cuts and slow fades" deliver the entertainment the title promises. Photos not seen by PW. Author tour.
