We've heard from the parents and stepparents. We've heard from the child psychologists and family counselors. Now let the children speak.
Here are the wise words of ten children who grew up in stepfamilies. They are young enough to remember the experience well and old enough to have learned from it. They not only offer their poignant stories, but they add advice specifically marked for parents, stepparents, and even stepchildren. They come from different races, economic levels and from various parts of the country, but all of their stories reverberate with truth and a desire to help others.
The author, a parent and stepparent herself, knew the right questions to ask and knew how to help them translate their sometimes painful experience into lessons from which all of us can learn.

Stepchildren Speak received a 2005 iParenting Media Award. iParenting Media is the premier media company focused on parents. They are committed to being the best in the parenting information field because they believe parents and children deserve nothing less. The following quotes are from award judges: What are the most positive characteristics of this book? This is a fantastic book. It really discusses actual ways that stepchildren were raised. It helps anyone who reads it get a better understanding of what the home life of a stepchild could be and gives an insight as to why a child/adult may act the way they do. I think that is was a great idea to just sit back and ask the stepchildren to chronicle their experiences. I think that their insights were touching, deeply emotional and can give all providers and divorced parents a good concept of what not to do. I liked finding out what they are doing now in their lives, and it reminds us of how precious and volatile a child s psyche is. I like how it is broken down into subcategories and the stepchildren give their advice. I think that is invaluable. I like the idea behind this book. It was full of what I thought it was good and sound research. I especially liked the ability to get a glimpse into the minds of stepchildren who were now grown up. It was a bit like being able to look in the future and helped understand how things occurring now might affect my stepchild someday. --E-parent Award
