Richard Chilson, author of Yeshua of Nazareth: Spiritual Master, calls Jesus of Nazareth "the towering figure of western spirituality." To him, every spiritual seeker "religious believer or nonbeliever, Christian or non-Christian" owes it to himself or herself to take a serious look at the way Jesus lived, loved, led and died.
Chilson says Jesus’ "way" belongs side by side with the "ways" of all the other great spiritual teachers and traditions. In Jesus, Jews will find a "wise man," a rabbi to be honored with other teachers of the law. Muslims will find a prophet of Allah. Buddhists, Hindus and Taoists will find a great spiritual teacher. And nonbelievers will find a pioneer whose knowledge has become a cornerstone of western civilization.
In Yeshua of Nazareth: Spiritual Master, Chilson gives all people new perspective on this popular historical and spiritual figure. The book is not designed to cultivate followers, rather it shows the spirit of Jesus, his day to day actions as a gifted storyteller and poet.
Chilson thoughtfully involves the reader in Jesus’ leadership strategies, capabilities and actions, showing how he motivated fishermen, tax collectors and other common people to shape the good news he preached. The result is a thoughtful and thought-provoking look at how Jesus lived what he preached and loved those he led.
As Chilson points out, the way of Jesus is both shockingly simple and enormously demanding. Jesus not only educated others, he troubled himself on their behalf and forgave them for their transgressions. Chilson encourages us to follow that lead. He says Jesus’ actions and words did not die 2000 years ago, they summon us now.
