The Great Fire in St. John's Newfoundland was originally published in 1892 both as a souvenir, and a report on the activities of the committee raised up in Boston and the surrounding area, to provide aid and comfort to the destitute and homeless citizens of St. John's. It has been re-printed in its entirety, including 17 pages recording the names of all the kind individuals and companies who gave what they could, from .10c to $1,000, plus clothing and material goods, as well as the advertisements of businesses which supported the printing of the booklet at the time. The advertisements themselves seem to speak in a more gentle tone than we are used to; as if it were in bad taste, under the circumstances, to promote themselves too aggressively. Fred Adams has supplemented photographs from his own extensive collection with others from the archives and from the St. John's Fire Department, in order to show the extent of the disaster. Adams' introduction is an account of one who has heard the story first-hand, from those who lived it. Seller Inventory # 580044
