The director of cancer prevention and natural products research at Ohio State University here describes the modern prevention-oriented natural health system maharishi ayur-ved, which is related to the ancient Indian health program known as ayurveda. Writing to "inspire both self-help and social policy," Sharma introduces the concept and actions of free radicals, discusses research on them in a wide variety of fields and diseases, and concludes with a consideration of how consciousness is vital to physical health. He also demonstrates both the good and bad features of oxygen. He relates the free radical scavenger, maharishi amrit kalash, to transcendental meditation, showing how the former works from body to mind while the latter moves from mind to body.
