From the Publisher:
This title has won two important awards: National "Excellence in Book Design" award," Alcuin Society, 1997 "Certificate of Merit" award, Writers Digest, 1998

Every publisher wants to say that their book is unique - but Along Interstate-75 really is. Here's why - to our knowledge: no other travel or driving guide is available for this very popular freeway; no other travel guide prints their maps upside-down, in the direction of travel (maps for people who hate maps); no other travel guide prints the date on which the information was last updated, on each page.

Oh, and by the way, we don't consider those who buy this book "readers" - we consider them friends! Dave Hunter asked us to print his home phone number on the title page so you can stay in touch.

From the Author:
Since an early age, I have loved maps, history and discovering unusual stories on my many journeys around the States. Combined with my fondness for writing and love for helping people, this has led to seven annually updated editions of "Along Interstate-75" - a book which has quickly become the "must-have" guide for anyone heading out for a long-distance drive on the freeway.

You will find many unusual things in this book - for instance, recognizing that many people have difficulty reading traditional maps and often turn them upside down to understand them, I drew my full colored 25 miles-per-page strip maps so you drive "up the page." For instance, when driving southbound towards Florida, I have put South at the top of the map. This allows you to follow the map naturally while lying in your lap while sitting in the car. Features I've drawn on the right side of the freeway appear on the right hand side of the car, and vice-versa. This process is repeated for the northbound set of maps. It's so easy to follow.

My passion for history paid dividends while researching for the book. I rediscovered two little known Civil War battle sites in North Georgia and found that the interstate ran right through the middle of the Union and Confederate battle lines. I also researched a long forgotten pioneer trail blazed in 1775 by Daniel Boone, which crosses the path of the I-75 in Kentucky.

Another piece of Civil War research that was so much fun was the rediscovery of the famous Great Locomotive Chase - the incident when Union raiders kidnapped a Confederate locomotive just north of Atlanta, and were chased by the train's conductor, first by foot, then on a pole car, and finally in a series of other locomotives - all the way to the Tennessee border. Walt Disney made a well known movie about this chase in the 1950s. I not only found the original track bed, but wooden bridges and an abandoned tunnel which all played a part in this chase. All are very close to I-75 and maps of the chase have been included, in this book.

Another scoop - the cabin layout of JFK's Air Force One - the aircraft which flew President Kennedy and Jackie to Dallas, and then brought his casket back with the newly sworn President Johnson on board. This aircraft is on public display at a USAF air base close to I-75. I was very fortunate to visit it on a day when one of the original flight crew was also visiting. The crew member kindly spent several hours drawing the internal layout of the aircraft on its tragic Dallas visit, and I have reproduced this in its full detail in the book. More than 100,000 people have purchased my book for their trek to and from Florida. They obviously enjoy the sense of fun and adventure I project from the pages since I get many letters commenting that it was "just as if Dave was in the car with us, sharing stories along the way. It made the journey seem so short."
