Nevin Grant is a freelance broadcaster, journalist, playwright and musician. He served as the Program Director and Music Director of OLDIES 1150 CKOC, Hamilton and the Program Director of 820 CHAM, his CKOC tenure totaling 38 years with CKOC as a TOP 40 STATION and 12 years as an Oldies station. 820 CHAM was Country. Nevin still does freelance features on CKOC. After graduating in Radio and Television Arts from Toronto's Ryerson University, Nevin started at CKOC in 1966 as a copywriter and became Creative Director, Music Director, Assistant Program Director then Program Director. He is most proud of his years mentoring and encouraging local Canadian musical talent while providing exposure on one of Canada's leading Top 40 Radio Stations — CKOC. Nevin served two terms as Chairman of the influential "Maple Leaf System" of Canada's leading TOP 40 stations during the late 60's and early 70's as they sought to create immediate coast—to—coast airplay for new Canadian talent.
Nevin chaired the Radio Advisory Board at Mohawk College for many years. He has served on numerous boards during his radio tenure, including the Boards of Directors of the HAMILTON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA, PARTICIPATION HOUSE and MARDI GRAS HAMILTON. He was a longtime member of the EAST HAMILTON OPTIMISTS and with them founded "THE CHRISTMAS MIRACLE" in 1972. In 1986 Nevin won the HOWARD CAINE MEMORIAL AWARD from the CENTRAL CANADA BROADCASTER'S ASSOCIATION for outstanding community service and in 1989 he received an AWARD OF MERIT from the Board pf Governors of Mohawk College acknowledging his years of volunteer lecturing and working with Canada's future broadcasters at the College. In 2002 he was inducted into Hamilton's prestigious GALLERY OF DISTINCTION, and in 2009 Nevin was presented with a "MUSIC INDUSTRY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD" at the annual Hamilton Music Awards. Nevin has been involved with the piano since the age of four, serving stints as a classical pianist, dance band pianist and with a number of Rock groups.
As a playwright Nevin has co—authored "The British Music Invasion", "British Invasion Two : America Strikes Back", "California Dreaming", "California Dreaming Two: The Beat Goes On"... and "Canadian Explosion" for Stage West plus many musical productions for leading Tribute artists. He co—wrote and performed in 'The Doo Wop Shop" and "Divas" with Theatre Ancaster. Nevin has also written and acted as the Narrator for numerous musical productions at "LIVE ACT" in Whitby. He's an authority on the music of the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's.
