An intimate look at the dynamics within a Ukrainian Orthodox Church Minister s family. The larger-than-life role of her father as the head of his congregation; the important role of assistant and helpmate played by her mother; and the roles of the children as members of the royal family always on view, all contributed to an almost fairy-tale existence.
Lisa Bodnarchuk was born into a Ukrainian Orthodox Church Minister s family. As with all families, the dynamics of the people involved helped to form their characters and personalities. As Lisa says, We all learn at an early age just how important are the optics of a situation. . . . It boils down to putting on the appropriate face at the appropriate time.
Expectations of impeccable behaviour and perfection were bravely met by a small child growing up in this fishbowl environment. One would expect rebellion, perhaps an about face, with the onset of puberty; but we find that Lisa Bodnarchuk was not one to let her family down.
Through childhood memories and thoughtful analyses of experiences with friends, partners, and pets, the author has attempted to share with us a very different kind of life--and where it has led her.

This is Lisa s first book. She lives in Gananoque, Ontario, on the St. Lawrence River with her spouse and two Siberian huskies, Sterling and Sapphire. Lisa moved to Gananoque almost ten years ago. After growing up in Toronto and building her first career there, she likes to say she ran away from Toronto.
Lisa has a joint specialist in political science and history from the University of Toronto and a law degree from Queen s University in Kingston. It was her time at Queen s that introduced her to the captivating beauty of Gananoque, which is about twenty minutes east of Kingston.
Lisa was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1989 and built her legal career in aviation. She held key roles in running Pearson Airport as an employee of Transport Canada for five years and then acting as sole in-house legal counsel for Skyservice Airlines for seven years.
Now she has shifted her focus to the volunteer and political realms. Since moving to Gananoque, she has served on the board of directors of the Kingston Humane Society, and has been riding president of a political party. She ran for Gananoque Town Council in 2003 and, although not winning a seat, was placed on the Committee of Adjustments in recognition of her efforts. She is currently Chair of Committee of Adjustments of the Town of Gananoque, and Vice-Chair of the Police Services Board.
