About the Author

Born in Montreal in 1956, John Heney lived in Toronto and Stratford, Ontario, before obtaining a Bachelor of Journalism with Political Science at Carleton University in Ottawa. Work followed in print and radio journalism, communications, and public affairs. He obtained an M.Am from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton in 1983. John filled positions at Bell-Northern Research, Bell Canada, and subsequently as an editor and then as the managing editor of a newsletter publishing firm.<BR><BR>He was compelled to change direction at the age of thirty-five when latent complications from cerebral palsy manifested in sudden-onset dystonia. His subsequent work includes the books The Thunder Within: A True Story and Ladies and Gentlemen: Daring to Live What the Soul Already Knows.<BR><BR>History has long been a passion for him, in many forms. A recipient of the City of Ottawa Civic Appreciation Award in 2008 for his work in several facets of local heritage, he is also the founding president of the Friends of the City of Ottawa Archives. His employment of music and history has created an extensive collection of antique machines, recordings, and related paraphernalia. John resides in Ottawa with his wife, Kathy.
