From the Back Cover:

'A very real effect of living within a delusion is the insecurity of not measuring up to the image. Most Californians grow up in a world where bathing beauties and lifeguards swig beers, chomp burgers and gulp cokes as if there is no fat tomorrow. As far as television is concerned, these calories appear to collect solely in the chest area.'
Xenophobia is an irrational fear of foreigners, probably justified, always understandable.
Xenophobe's Guides - an irreverent look at the beliefs and foibles of nations, almost guaranteed to cure Xenophobia.

About the Author:

Anthony Marais was born in Hollywood the year Walt Disney died. His childhood was spent in Huntington Beach and Belmont Shore, doing what Californians do best: having a good time and not worrying about the future. In the 1980s he co-founded the Los Angeles pop group ¿The Squids¿, a career move that effectively ended his future. He therefore went to Berkeley and found a new one.

An anthropologist and avid film collector, he claims to be on a campaign to promote dreaming and escapism as the only hope for achieving self-actualisation. The result has been a vagabond lifestyle of writing between Polynesia, Canada, France, Germany and California - one that has, as yet, brought him nowhere near self-actualisation.

He openly admits to loving both San Francisco and LA, the former in his opinion being archetypically Californian and the latter quintessentially American. Be that as it may, he claims it¿s the tacos that keep him coming back.
