Published to coincide with an exhibition at White Cube in South East London, this monograph of astonishing photographic work by Darren Almond is filled with time-lapse shots of dreamlike natural landscapes. Flowing streams and waves in the sea become ephemeral, blurred washes of white, blue and grey, while stars draw faint lines in the sky. Sublime geological complexity is juxtaposed with murky forests, from which we peer out onto surreal sandy beaches. In some, the glowing, unexpectedly vibrant colours are the result of Almonds using moonlight as his only source of illumination. The temporal expansion and uncanny aesthetic lends the images a certain nostalgia.
