Glen Matlock was a founding member of the Sex Pistols and co-wrote most of their iconic songs. His story of the Pistols' rise to global infamy is an honest, insightful account of a group of intelligent malcontents, determined to change the music business and to attack hypocrisy and stale conventions in society at large. Glen brilliantly captures the flavour of seventies Britain and reveals the complexities and personality clashes that made the Pistols so explosive at that time. Also includes true tales of the Pistols reunion tours of 1996 and 2002. Never mind the other bollocks-filled books about the Sex Pistols, here's the truth.

About the Author:

In a career that has spanned over thirty years, Glen Matlock has made indelible contributions to music as the original bass player with The Sex Pistols, formed the underrated Rich Kids, and worked with artists ranging from Iggy Pop & Robert Gordon to the reformed Faces. Peter Silverton was features editor at Sounds in 1976, and is the author of Filthy English (2010).

From Library Journal:

This punk rock survivor's tale seems as media-induced as the obnoxiousness surrounding the Sex Pistols, one of the movement's seminal groups. This first-hand account by the band's original bassist relates the negativism, fetishism, and poor management surrounding the band. Matlock tells of the band's influence on the rest of the movement, its reckoning with the early careers of more illustrious Pistols Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious, and other present-day post-punk rockers like Billy Idol, Iggy Pop, Chrissie Hynde, and Siouxsie Sioux. At the end of this collection of bored anecdotes, Matlock concludes that the Pistols were "a total failure . . . deeply unsatisfying . . . one of history's big 'So What?'s." Given that, one wonders why he bothered to write about it.
