Three little pigs go off to explore the world, and build homes of their very own. One uses straw, another sticks, and a third tries bricks. But what will happen to each little piggy when the Big Bad Wolf come along and says, “I'll HUFF and I'll PUFF and I'll BLOW YOUR HOUSE DOWN”? Emily Bolam's adorable illustrations and simple text make this delightful retelling of a timeless tale just right for very young children.

Emily Bolam studied illustration at Brighton College. Her first idea for a children's book, a pop-up version of a Rudyard Kipling story, began as a college project and was published upon her graduation in 1990. Since then, Emily has illustrated over 100 children's books by many different authors, including Georgie Adams, Vivian French, and Francesca Simon. Emily lives and works in Brighton, England, where she shares her studio with other artists and illustrators.
PreS-K–A good, strong classic retelling. The main elements are here, minus the more violent aspects: the pigs each escape to one another's homes, and, when the Big Bad Wolf climbs down the chimney, he lands in a pot of soup, burns his bottom, and runs away, never to return. With a nod to modern sensibilities, the pigs come in shades of pink and brown and include a sister devoid of hair ribbons and smart enough to use bricks. Simple acrylic cartoon illustrations with thick black outlines make the story easy to see from a distance. Children in small groups or on laps will enjoy searching the pages for two mice and poring over the elaborate endpapers. Libraries needing a standard version to play counterpoint to all the fractured fairy tales will do well to add this to their collections.–Suzanne Myers Harold, Multnomah County Library System, Portland, ORα(c) Copyright 2013.
