Many joke books have been published in the past, the majority of which comprise of typical specimens of crude bar humour or the ramblings of inebriated sports fans. While such collections are amusing in their own right, not all contain material that one can repeat to one’s elderly relatives. This collection of jokes and humorous stories may be communicated with ease and safety to everybody, even those of a delicate disposition, and is perfect for a bit of light-hearted after-dinner entertainment. Why not grab your friends and family, prepare your funny bones and delve into this delightful collection?

Maurice Jack Stoppi is a chartered quantity surveyor and chartered arbitrator who lives and works in Jamaica. For the last four decades he has travelled widely and worked on many of the English-speaking Caribbean islands. He has played an instrumental role in founding several (now well-established) construction organisations and has published several books on arbitration and other forms of commercial dispute settlement. His interest in humour goes back to his early youth when he was, he admits, short, fat and bespectacled. Back then, he used humour as a self-defence mechanism. Later, no longer needing this subterfuge, he found that a keen sense of humour was not only a social asset but also a useful device for enlivening otherwise boring subjects — a method he found useful in public speaking. In order to help others who are perhaps in similar circumstances to those of his past, he decided wrack his memory and write down some well-known one-liners and other jokes that have made him smile over the years. Thus, his work entitled Uncle Bob’s Joke Book was born.
