DR. GULED SALAH is a prominent Somali politician and academic. Born in Mogadishu, Barre's journey from local roots exemplifies the potential for impactful leadership in Somalia's evolving federal system. Dr. Guled pursued his higher education with dedication, earning a Bachelor's degree in Statistics from Omdurman University in Sudan, followed by an MBA in International Business from Amity University in India. Capping his academic achievements, Barre received a Ph.D. from the United Nations University for Peace, with a focus on Federalism in Somalia - a subject that would shape his future career. In the political arena, Barre has held significant positions. He served as the Puntland's Minister of Environment and Climate Change from 2014 to 2015, addressing crucial environmental issues in the region. His commitment to democratic processes was demonstrated through his role as Chairman of the Transitional Puntland Electoral Committee from 2019 to 2022, where he successfully oversaw the region's first direct elections in 50 years. As the founder and inaugural director of SIDRA, a prominent research and policy analysis institute, he has played a pivotal role in shaping policy development and analysis in Somalia. Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas is a Somali American economist and politician who has played significant roles in Somalia's governance. Born in 1967 in Dhusamareb, Somalia, he pursued higher education in economics, obtaining degrees from Somali National University, Vanderbilt University, Harvard Kennedy School, and a PhD from George Mason University.Gaas began his career in Somalia's Ministry of Finance in the 1980s before moving to the United States, where he became an associate professor of economics at Niagara University. His academic work focused on public finance, economic growth, and institutional impacts on development.In 2010, Gaas entered Somali politics as Minister of Planning and International Cooperation. He served as Prime Minister of Somalia from June 2011 to October 2012, during which he developed the "Roadmap for the End of Transition" to establish democratic institutions in the country.After a brief stint as a member of the Federal Parliament, Gaas was elected as the 5th President of Puntland, an autonomous state in northeastern Somalia, serving from 2014 to 2019. His tenure saw various development initiatives, including infrastructure projects, security sector reforms, and efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation with international partners.Key achievements during his presidency included launching a biometric fishery database, initiating taxation reforms, finalizing a five-year development plan for Puntland, and successfully concluding a military campaign against the Al-Shabaab militant group. DR. ABDURAHMAN ABDULLAHI (BAADIYOW) born in 1954 in Somalia was a high ranking military officer (1971-1986), Islamic scholar and socio-political activist. He obtained MA and PhD in Modern Islamic History from the Islamic Institute, McGill University, Canada. He is one of the founders of the Mogadishu University and was a presidential candidate in the 2012 election in Somalia. Dr. Abdullahi is a prominent Islamic scholar and has participated in many academic conferences and published several academic papers, book chapters and general articles in Arabic, Somali, and English Languages.
