Harry Elmer Barnes (1889-1968) was professor of history and professor of historical sociology at the Massachusetts Clark University and Smith College respectively, before taking on adjunct professor positions at a number of other schools. He published more than 30 books, 100 essays, and 600 articles and book reviews, many for the Council on Foreign Relations journal Foreign Affairs, where he served as Bibliographical Editor
