Thousands of people have passed through the doors of Jewish Family Service in Dallas, Texas, in the past 55 years. During that time, the agency's kitchen has always been filled with homemade goodies--maybe a "thank you" cake, or a "thinking about you" pie. The recipes of many of these treats had been passed down through generations, some being brought to the U.S. by recent immigrants. The Best We Ever Ate! compiles the best of those delicious desserts in this beautiful book with easy-to-follow recipes, heart-warming and humorous stories, and Cook's Notes that add that "little something extra" to every recipe. Whether you're looking to make cookies, cakes, puddings, pies, or special treats for Passover or other Jewish holidays, you'll find the best in The Best We Ever Ate!

Kyra Effren grew up in South Africa where she was nurtured by Welsh and Russian Jewish grandmothers, a German housekeeper, an Irish nanny--all of whom were formidable cooks--plus a Cape Malay cook who loved Italian Food! After emigrating as an adult to the U.S., she found her passion teaching others to cook. Ms. Effren has attended the Cordon Bleu in England and was awarded the "Commanderie des Cordon Bleus" in France for her contributions to French cooking. She also served as a food stylist and contributing writer for the "Food" section of The Dallas Morning News for 10 years. This is the third cookbook she has edited.Review:
