The Gift of Values is just fantastic. It is everything I longed for as a young parent. Rosie Boom has produced an outstanding resource for parents. As a young mother, I spent many hours scouring bookshops and parenting magazines for help in creating family times with our children. I searched for material which taught Christian truths, was inspirational, and which captured the hearts of our youngsters. This book is what I was looking for. Put together with so much love and care, it will be treasured by parents everywhere.
Rosie's passion for educating children, her mother's heart, and her concern for her children's character all shine through. But most of all there is something for everyone. The background reading for parents, the stories, mottos, proverbs, and sayings for children and the real-life examples from Rosie herself, all add up to a very special publication.
I could not recommend this book more highly to all parents , whether Christian or not, who are committed to leaving their children a legacy of charcter and insight. Mary Grant --New Zealand Parenting Magazine
Every so often a book comes along that takes us back to sources, to the origins and beginnings of moral codes. It is a sharp reminder that today's educators have wandered far from the ancient wisdoms into the post-modern jungle of situational ethics.
New Zealand author, Rosie Boom's book The Gift of Valuesis one of those books.
Simply written and boldly told, it sets out to give parents a wealth of resources in coping with the upbringing of children, Underlying her approach is an unflinching world view based on spiritual beliefs that have guided mankind for millenia.
Forgotten and embarrassing words such as honesty, courage, perseverance, diligence and - dare I say it - obedience head up the chapters. Each is illustrated with examples from her experience of bringing up six children. --The Bay Chronicle
The Gift of Valueshas sparked my joy for teaching character-building devotions to my children, and has injected wonder and enthusiasm into the experience. Here is a tool that will make these precious times with our children even more memorable, fun-filled, and a real learning adventure. I appreciate the honest, real-life touches throughout this book. I'm certain that with the aid of this book, God will draw many little hearts even closer to Him. --H.E.A.R.T (The Home Educators Annual Retreat)
